I used to think my mission in life was to work as a volunteer in Africa. That is until my marriage broke down in 1999. During the years that followed, I went through a dramatic and profound spiritual process that returned me to my soul. Today, I know that my mission in life is to share this experience and what I have learnt.
When I talk about the soul, I’m referring to an inner experience. Soul is our core, our essence, our being. It is expansive, light, airy. It is awareness in the purest form. It is light, knowledge, beauty, peace and power.
Most likely, you have experienced the soul in the ways I describe above at some time or other. Maybe you know it well. Or, maybe you’ve experienced it, but haven’t known what it was. Either way, I hope that what I describe here will help you to understand your own experience in a way that gives you meaning.
It’s usually the case, that once we have a soul experience, we want more. Unfortunately, it’s not something we can consciously control. We can’t click our fingers and suddenly ‘be’ there. The soul will make itself known when you’re ready to experience it. But there are things we can do to connect with the soul. In fact, there are things you most likely do on a regular basis that will put you in contact with your soul. Listening to music is one such thing, or spending time in natural surroundings or watching a magnificent sunset. It is the beauty and power of music, of nature, of a sunset, that connects you with your soul.
Cultivate that connection as often as you desire. It will bring you much pleasure.
I’d love to hear how you go. You’re welcome to share your thoughts/experiences in the comments below.
